Stunning Cycling Holidays in the Tarn
There is nothing quite like a cycling holiday in southwest France! A combination of breathtaking scenery and favourable weather conditions for much of the year make the Tarn a cyclist’s dream. Winding roads, undulating landscapes, good road surface and scant traffic make for a tranquil and thoroughly enjoyable ride through vineyards and charming Occitanie villages. Whether you want to challenge yourself to ride some former stages of the Tour de France or to meander between the vines, there are many routes to choose from. Contact Philippe who will be happy to provide rental bikes or organise a bespoke tour for your party.
The Gaillac region – boasting some of the oldest vineyards in France – is home to more than a hundred winemakers. Leaving from the shop, you can easily explore the local wineries by bike. Most wineries are open to the public, so why not chat with some local winemakers and indulge in a little dégustation de vin?
Should you need directions or recommendations, we can provide you with route maps featuring local wine producers. Explore at your own pace, or if you prefer, sign up for a guided cycle tour. You can also request a private or bespoke cycle tour with your friends and family. Contact us for more information.
Cycle Paths and Routes
The véloroute connects Saint-Sulpice-sur-Tarn and Albi and is well signposted. The route is 63 km long in total and winds its way through the picturesque villages and towns of the Tarn valley. These include Saint-Sulpice, Rabastens-Couffouleux, Lisle-sur-Tarn, Gaillac, Tessonnières, Marssac-sur-Tarn, Albi-Ville and Albi-Madeleine. All these towns are serviced by the train – a useful fallback if you decide to take it easy or want to spend longer exploring!
Another great resource for planning your trip is the website of the International Federal Week of Cycle Tourism. In 2015 the event was held in Albi and attended by more than 15,000 cyclists from all over Europe. The website is active still and provides route maps and useful information about cycling in the Tarn.
Hen and Stag Parties
Want to organise a hen party or stag party with a difference?
Something a bit more outdoorsy than the norm, perhaps? Then look no further. What better way to celebrate with your best girl and guy friends than hopping on a bike and exploring the Gaillac vineyards. Chat with local winemakers. Enjoy some top-notch wine tasting. Be wowed by the Tarn’s breathtaking scenery. Laugh a lot. Make memories that will last a lifetime.
Bike hire is available from our shop in Gaillac – see our bike rentals page for further details. We can also provide packed lunches if required. If you would like to add another outdoor activity to your itinerary, consider a kayaking adventure on the Tarn river.
There is a large choice of catered and self-catered accommodation in the area (see Pure France, Airbnb and Gîtes de France, among other websites). Depending on the size of the group we might also be able to advise on suitable accommodation in the locale.
Gaillac is approximately a 45-minute drive from Toulouse-Blagnac airport. If you prefer to base yourself in Toulouse for the weekend, it is perfectly possible to take the train to Gaillac from Toulouse-Matabiau station (a 40-minute journey) and return to the city in the late afternoon or early evening.
We think Gaillac and the Tarn is the perfect location for a special stag or hen party. If you think this might be what you’re looking for and would like more information, please don’t hesitate to ask. We are happy to answer any questions you might have about accommodation in the area, transport, guided or self-guided tours, and other possible activities.
